Memorials & Plaques

In Australia during and in the aftermath of WWI, as in every country involved in the conflict, cities, towns, villages, churches, community groups and individuals hastened to create memorials to returned combatants and to the memory of those who did not return. The Find a memorial | NSW War Memorials Register lists over 80 sites in the Inner West alone, amongst them, the Balmain Loyalty Square Memorial opened for the first ANZAC Day commemoration in 1916.
